01 At a glance

Every recipe on the line in seconds.

The Pass gives a restaurant one trusted recipe book that every cook can open on a phone or tablet, in their own language. Chefs build it by typing, pasting, or scanning the binder they already have, and nothing is saved until a chef confirms it's right.

Any devicePhone, tablet or computer. Install it to the home screen; no special hardware.
English & EspañolEach person chooses their language, switchable in one tap.
A scanner that never inventsCopies only what's on the card, flags anything uncertain, and waits for a chef to verify.
Your data stays yoursNo ads, no tracking. Scans are read on our own servers.
02 The problem in the kitchen

Recipes live in binders, on tape, and in the sous chef's head.

Most kitchens run on a stained binder, laminated cards taped above the station, and whatever the person who trained you remembered. It works until it doesn't: a new cook guesses the salt, the weekend crew makes the aioli differently, and the chef who wrote the recipes leaves.

  • Recipes drift. Small changes pile up when there's no single source everyone trusts.
  • Training is slow. Every new hire learns by asking, which pulls a chef off the line.
  • Language gaps cost time. Many crews work in both English and Spanish, and most kitchen software treats that as an afterthought or charges extra for it.
  • Getting started is the hardest part. Typing in a binder of recipes is the step that stops most kitchens from going digital.
The crew

39% of US cooks, 35% of dishwashers and 31% of food prep workers are Hispanic.

U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics, 2025. The Pass treats Spanish as a first-class language, included for everyone.
03 What The Pass is

One recipe book the whole crew can trust.

The Pass is named for the window between the kitchen and the dining room, where every plate gets checked before it goes out. It brings that same check to your recipes.

Promise 1

Fast on the line

Open any recipe in seconds, scale it to the batch you need, and see timers, temperatures and allergens right on the card.

Promise 2

Right every time

Chefs control the recipes. Every save is verified by a person, and the card shows who checked it and when.

Promise 3

Easy to start

Photograph your binder and The Pass lays each recipe out for you to check, instead of retyping it all.

04 How it works

From sign-up to service in three steps.

  1. Set up your kitchen

Create your restaurant and its locations in a couple of minutes. Running more than one? Each location gets its own crew and recipes, and you choose what's shared.

  2. Add your recipes

Type them in the recipe studio, paste an ingredient list and let The Pass split out amounts and units, or scan your binder, cards and printouts.

  3. Bring in your crew

Show the invite QR code on your phone. Cooks scan it with their camera, sign up, and see only the location they work at, in the role you gave them.

05 The recipe card

One standard format for every dish.

Whether a recipe was typed, pasted or scanned, it lands in the same clean card. Every section is optional, so a quick sauce stays simple and a banquet item can carry everything.

  • A
At a glance. Yield, portion, prep and cook time, and how long it keeps, before you read a word.
  • B
Scales instantly. Need 6 quarts instead of 3? Every quantity recalculates, shown the way cooks read them (1 ¼ cup, not 1.25).
  • C
Allergens up front. Suggested from the ingredients, confirmed by the chef, shown on every card.
  • D
Method with timers and temperatures. Each step can carry a timer and a cook-to, hold-at, chill-to, oven or fry temperature.
  • E
Storage, plating and chef notes. Plus equipment, ingredient groups ("for the dressing") and a photo of the finished dish.
  • F
Verified. Every save records who confirmed the recipe is correct, and every change is versioned.
06 The recipe scanner

Your binder, digitized, and checked by a chef.

Photograph a handwritten card, a binder page, a printout or a screenshot from a website. The Pass reads it and lays it out as a recipe card for a chef to check.

  1. STEP 1Snap or uploadPhotos, PDFs, or pasted text. Up to 10 pages per recipe.
  2. STEP 2Read twiceThe AI copies the page line by line, twice, independently. It copies; it doesn't write.
  3. STEP 3Check against the cardEvery amount and unit is compared with its own line on the original.
  4. STEP 4Chef reviewsDoubtful lines are flagged beside the original photo, with the card's reading one tap away.
  5. STEP 5Verified recipeSaved only when the chef confirms it's correct.
The rule

The AI never adds, removes or invents.

Ingredients, steps, yields and titles that aren't on the original are left out and listed. Lines it skipped are offered to add, never added on their own. Fixes are suggested, never applied without the chef.

Tested on real recipes

Handwriting, crossed-out lines, website screenshots.

Built and tuned on real handwritten kitchen cards and recipe-site screenshots, ignoring ads and page clutter. A typical page takes 12 to 20 seconds.

07 Built for the brigade

The right access for every role.

RoleSeesCan do
Owner / Exec chefThe whole restaurant groupAdd locations, manage chefs, share recipes across locations, everything below
Chef / Sous chefThe locations they runCreate, scan and edit recipes; invite staff with a QR code; manage their team
CookThe locations they work atOpen and scale recipes, read allergens, timers and temperatures

Many locations

One group, several kitchens. Staff only see where they work; a chef who runs two locations sees both.

Bilingual by default

The whole app works in English and Spanish, chosen per person and saved to their account.

No one promotes themselves

People can only invite roles below their own, enforced inside the database, not just the screen.

08 Privacy and security

Your recipes stay yours.

  • Each kitchen is walled off in the database. One restaurant can never see another's recipes, and automated tests prove it.
  • AI on our own servers. Scans are read by models we run ourselves. Images aren't sent to outside AI companies or used to train models.
  • No ads, no tracking, no selling data.
  • Encrypted connections, hashed passwords, limits on repeated sign-in attempts, and photo location data stripped on upload.
  • Scan uploads are deleted after 30 days. Saved recipes stay until a chef archives them.
  • Delete your account any time, in the app or on the web. Recipes written for a kitchen stay with that kitchen.
  • Published policies: privacy policy, terms and support at thepass.site.

11 Questions chefs ask

Straight answers.

Do we need to buy tablets or special hardware?

No. The Pass runs on the phones, tablets and computers you already have. It installs to the home screen like an app, and native App Store and Google Play versions are on the way.

Does it work without Wi-Fi?

Today The Pass needs a connection. An offline recipe book is next on the roadmap, so recipes open in the walk-in or a dead spot, followed by offline prep counts.

Will the AI change our recipes?

No. The scanner only copies what's written on your card, flags anything it isn't sure about, and suggests fixes for a chef to accept or ignore. Nothing is saved until a chef verifies it.

Are our recipes used to train AI?

No. Scans are read by AI models running on our own servers, and your images and recipes are never used to train models or shared with AI companies.

Can cooks use their own phones?

Yes, if your kitchen allows it. Cooks join by scanning a QR code on the chef's phone and see only their location. A shared kitchen tablet works too.

What happens after the 90-day early access?

You can license The Pass to keep using it, or download all your recipes as a CSV spreadsheet to keep. Licensing terms will be published before early access begins.

Which languages are supported?

English and Spanish today, chosen by each person. More languages are planned based on kitchen staff demographics.
